School life

I told my teacher I was so glad school was over and she told me to look at all the good things school had to offer
Stepping out of my school, I looked back at the red-bricked building and thought about writing a summary of this great chapter of my life which was close to an end...

School is where we made unforgettable memories. A whole different version about school is ‘a place where papa pays and son plays’. It is true that the thought of meeting our friends really triggers us off to leave our cosy beds and bear the mundane humdrum of a typical school day. So when we talk about school days it is simply a great deal of tittle-tattle about our best friends. Indeed school life starts with teary eyes and ends with sombre sighs!

Partially dozing off in the morning assemblies; scrapping off the nail paints hastily with teeth due to the fear of being penalized; flying where ever the flight of imagination would take us during the most boring lectures; fighting to sit on the last bench where we could easily munch on our favourite snacks without being spotted; asking for completed home assignments on the very day of submission with a frail promise that I would not copy paka wala promise yaar*! It’s a package of reckless doings and believe me if recalled the hilarity and absurdity of them will leave you in a laughing hysteria.

Frequent impatient glances at the watch meant that starving pupils were waiting for the recess bell to ring. Our Canteens would be intruded by a crazy crowd and we would hold our breaths and dive in the sea of hungry students. Then with huffed faces we would return holding firmly to our ultimate treasure- Samosas, patties and fries with a tin of coke!  I still remember how we used to stuff our mouths with Chocó-filled biscuits and savor the divine taste or suck on ice-lolly until our tongues would get coloured  We shared our money until we lost the track of the debts we owed to each other and forgot bothering about it completely (you know aaj-mainey-khilaya-kal-tum-khilana rule)!

Still our worries were losing those nasty 6 pounds (but one more smamosa won’t hurt) and threat of getting tanned from excessive sun exposure (but basketball match is equally important)! Whenever we tried to bunk the class hardly 5 minutes were enough to make us feel awful retreat to our class.

Our childishness peeps at us from the door of past and we smile at the forgotten carefree feel of being young. Hooting on top of our lungs during election campaigns until our voice would give away… and baking brownies and then reserving the finest piece with most icing for our best buddies! Every girl was helpless when it came to the traditional gossiping. Sometimes cutting remarks of the ‘sarcastic lady‘of the class would enrage us but our friends would cheer us up by cracking some of their witty jokes.

Exams-a knock on our light-hearted life-would leave our eyes all puffed up, tired due to cramming of piles and piles of syllabus in the very last days. Exam mornings’ were unusual as I remember half of us used to carry out the deep-rooted student ritual known as ‘last minute revision’ while others used to pray earnestly with eyes closed and hands clasped together (a complete gesture of surrender and beseeching). On top of that the ‘Genius’ the class would recall all the theories at high rpm and we would try not to listen in order to save ourselves from last minute panic attack.
Trivial fights and disagreements would leave us depressed and sad songs were played (on repeat) on our iPods due to the striking resemblance of the lyrics with our gloom. Well, we all have our share of sweet and sour memories highly seasoned with emotional spices but at the end of the day a handful of self- experienced lessons remain our most prized possessions. Dear Fellas it’s not ‘bye-bye’ to school but a ‘hello’ to the new world with mounting challenges!
